“My daughter learned a lot about various oil pastel techniques in this camp. She enjoyed the fact that she could make her own art work (rather than copying an image) and produced some wonderful creations. Thank you, Stephanie.”

WHAT IS THIS CLASS ABOUT?
In this fun four-day camp, young artists will dive into the vibrant and expressive world of oil pastels! We’ll explore techniques like blending, layering, texture, and even using oil to transform the look of their artwork. This is a process-over-product class — lots of creative freedom, playful experimentation, and inspiration-led artwork.
Oil pastels are not just messy crayons — they’re a rich, versatile medium that can surprise learners with how much they can do!
This class is perfect for students who are new to oil pastels or who tend to use them like crayons (one color at a time, with no blending). It’s also a fun refresher for anyone who’s only experimented with them a little. We start with the basics and build from there!
Please note: this is not a step-by-step, copy-me class. I’ll demonstrate techniques, offer ideas and themes, and guide students to explore — but all work will be self-generated. Students will follow their imaginations and may end up with abstract art, expressive pieces, or something totally unexpected.
Every project will be created with oil pastels — but beyond that, I can’t tell you exactly what they’ll make, and that’s the beauty of it!
WHAT HAPPENS IN CLASS?
Initial demo of the day’s technique
25-30 minutes of creative work time
Optional sharing and discussion at the end (sharing is encouraged but never required)
I create a supportive space where learners feel comfortable sharing when they’re ready!
CLASS OUTLINE:
Day 1: Introduction – blending experiments on light paper
Day 2: Dark paper & layering exploration

ART SUPPLIES NEEDED
